Seventeen years ago this week: The Jesus Lizard released Liar on Touch & Go. Today, a Steve Albini and Bob Weston remaster came out, along with remasters of Down, Goat, Head, and Pure. Below is the official video for "Puss", with a few other assorted videos from Liar after the jump. "Puss"
FINALLY a festival that promises fun, and lots of it! In its fourth year, the Austin, TX festival that is neither SXSW nor Austin City Limits is packing a serious one-two punch of good times and enjoyment. Fun Fun Fun Fest takes over the dusty utopia of downtown Austin's Waterloo Park for two action-packed days (November 7-8) full of a rad mix of up-and-coming acts and established performers. S...
Dude, The Jesus Lizard are touring again! I mean, obviously they've already played Pitchfork fest and a couple other shows but that's all the way over THERE and I'm all the way over HERE. Howcome I'm always like, the LAST to find out everything? You wanna see the reason I'm so stoked??? (Among other things) It's (mostly) cause of this right here:
The fans have spoken. If there's something they love more than a hot up 'n' coming act, it's the re-emergence of once-loved bands lost since entered into the annals of rock retirement. We've had Devo, we've had Spiritualized (okay, so they never retired, but still) and we've also had "sleep" (the band, not the luxury of rest).

If you combined rape, murder, and suicide into one thing and transformed it from a crime into music, it would sound like The Jesus Lizard. Which is why I like it so much. Good shit.
OK, I'll admit that I did a cartoonish double take over my Thanksgiving leftovers when I read that THE JESUS LIZARD ARE REUNITING "for a very limited series of live dates in 2009," according to the band's former label Touch & Go, which will also be reissuing four classic albums from the group. This [...]

On stage David Yow was a drunken, shirtless, cowboy-boot-stomping, slurred-speech wreck. It sounds like the kind of guy I hate to be near - especially at a show. But at Jesus Lizard shows, when they were still around and I was in my early twenties, I would press myself against the stage to be close to him and I would gaze up at him and smile--exhilarated.He had everything I always wanted in a r...
