The Intruders Are Together is the first Gamble LP by Sam "Little Sonny" Brown, Phil Terry, Eugene "Bird" Daughtry and Robert "Big Sonny" Edwards. They had previously recorded on a small Philadelphia label, where Kenny Gamble (this LP's producer) had also cut a single. Good luck trying to find this rare bird, you'll have better luck hitting the lotto. And that's a shame because many of these cuts can't be found on later cassettes and CDs. Songs with the quality of the intriguingly beautiful "A Devil With an Angel Smile," the aching "Baby I'm So Lonely" and the sad "A Book for the Brokenhearted," can't be found on their otherwise superb double CD on Collectable Records. The bouncy, spirited "A Love That's Real," with its bong-bongs was the Philly natives' first bonafide R&B hit. With its romantic lyrics, "United" served as the wedding song for many in the late '60s and early '70s; the harmonies of Phil, Bird and Big Sonny never got the credit deserved, but their blends were superb and beautifully done, and are especially spine tingling on the shuffling "Together." Some record company should combine this with their Cowboy to Girls LP, the combination would make one helluva CD.
