Ok, so picture this. You are a young man in Suburban Detroit and you have this lovely Cassette tape. It's a self-titled album by a Brit band called The House of Love, which you figure is their debut. You proceed to play songs like Shine On, I Don't Know Why I Love You, In A Room and Beatles and The Stones until you wear out the tape. (Happily two years later you get a CD player all is well). It took me over a month since receiving this double-disc set from UK to actually give it a careful listen. I regret having waited. The 1989-92 sessions that comprise the second disc show a band that's making an admirable effort to make up for something lost and never regained with the departure of the guitarist Terry Bickers (due to reasons of mental health).
