I'm finally posting about a beloved & adored group of mine & my fav album of theirs- The House Of Love. "Spy In The House Of Love" is their 2nd major label cd (but actually their 3rd since they had an indy release on the Fontana label). I discovered these guys from their 1st eponymous major label cd & the songs "Shine On" & "I Don't Know Why I Love You" that I heard on the radio & the vids on MTV's 120 Minutes program. First Wild Swans, The Sound, and Comsat Angels, and now The House Of Love. The UK label Renascent will reissue the classic 1988 debut album The House Of Love on Sept. 24th, with new liner notes from Guy Chadwick and Alan McGee (but no bonus tracks, unfortunately).

Ok, so picture this. You are a young man in Suburban Detroit and you have this lovely Cassette tape. It's a self-titled album by a Brit band called The House of Love, which you figure is their debut. You proceed to play songs like Shine On, I Don't Know Why I Love You, In A Room and Beatles and The Stones until you wear out the tape. (Happily two years later you get a CD player all is well). It took me over a month since receiving this double-disc set from UK to actually give it a careful listen. I regret having waited. The 1989-92 sessions that comprise the second disc show a band that's making an admirable effort to make up for something lost and never regained with the departure of the guitarist Terry Bickers (due to reasons of mental health).
