The good folks at Daytrotter have done it again. A beautiful four song session with The Handsome Family. The songs are from the terrific Honey Moon (review here) and currently available from the nicest label in the biz - Mint Records. So head over to Daytrotter, download the songs, click some ads and then buy the record from Mint. Seems like a nice way to start your weekend.MP3:: The Handsome F...
Hot off the release of Honey Moon, their brand new record on Carrot Top, The Handsome Family are hitting the West Coast and aren't looking back. Not even if they pass the world's largest farmer's market! The down-home Albuquerque duo of Brett and Rennie Sparks are now on their 20th year of marriage and their 8th studio record as a band. They recently played a number of sold-out shows on the Eas...
MP3: The Handsome Family - "When You Whispered" from Honey Moon, out now. I love this band, and can't wait to pick up their new album. Might run out and grab it at lunch. A couple of recent Handsome Family...
For 15 years now, The Handsome Family's Brett and Rennie Sparks have perfected the functional family dynamic model, making music side-by-side in commingled bliss. They're the ideal, what the rest of us strive to achieve with our actual bloodline families, or with our music website news families, but ultimately fail to emulate. It is not always easy to stand up to your dad when he grills you abo...
ok, i guess that Can song i just posted isn't playing... ah well.here's my second St. Patty's Day choice... Drunk By Noon.i guess this could apply to any day, not just St. Patty's Day, well, if you're into being drunk by noon that is... i realllllly love this band, they are so dark and beautiful.ok, off to paint those nails!"if my life lasted only one day, i'd still be drunk by noon."
Today is a day for The Handsome Family. Haunting yet beautiful; I find their work very relaxing. Twilight, Singing Bones, and Last Days Of Wonder all make great background music. It amazes me that I never get tired of them, even though there is so little variety in their songs. Out of the three albums that I own, I'd have to say Singing Bones is the best. It seems to be the most imaginative.

Their new album...
While your waiting for the new Mark Pickerel album.. and there are maybe 4 of us on Mog... I have to point you towards the dark pulp alt dusk rock... also know as Alt Country of "The Handsome Family":http://www.handsomefamily.com/I love this song, and keep coming back to it... and I don't know exactly why... it just rocks...

My review of last week's Handsome Family show at Club Congress is online at the Tucson Weekly: THE HANDSOME FAMILY, DANIEL KNOX CLUB CONGRESS, Wednesday, July 29 With easy beats, soothing harmonies and a twang brushed with plenty of Southwestern grit, the Handsome Family play a timeless brand of country music—if not exactly traditional, it's certainly pure, free of alt or rock
