If you can't tell by our SXSW lineups, we're a big fan of The Grates. The Aussies are heading over for the first time in quite a while and will play multiple dates at SXSW, including all three parties MOKB is associated with, and then hit NYC and LA. If you haven't seen this band live, you're missing out. You'll leave out of breath and with an ear-to-ear grin of happiness. The Grates - Burn B...

Some days I just cannot believe how fabulous my life is. How truly lucky I am to live in such an AWESOME city & be surrounded by a plethora of kick ass friends. Last week I was listening to my Pandora station, when this peppy new song called "Science Is Golden" popped up. It was catchy, and spoke to my (inner) science geek. Turns out the Grates are just that- great at making catchy indie pop songs. I don't know much about them, but I'm professing my love here first to the mog-o-sphere.

The Hillside Festival in Guelph was...unreal. So many great shows, so many great people. Because there's so much to cover here, I'm going to make my posts day-by-day. These posts will be filled with commentary, poorly lit photos, and shaky video footage. But if these things can make you feel even a remote portion of the joy I felt this past weekend, then it will all be well worth it.The Grates ...

Australia’s The Grates will be playing Pianos Residency in Manhattan (Lower East Side) TOMORROW (7/14). You may not expect them to be my cup of tea, but then consider that the trio (two girls, one guy) meshes so many different sounds together – I feel like I’m listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Cold [...]

All I can say is WOW! OK, that's not ALL I am going to say but I could, and probably should since I am a shitty writer and all. But "WOW" sums it up just fine. Oh wait...I just remembered something I heard outside after the show that REALLY sums it up..."They were better than Christmas for poor people".I didn't know what to expect going into this show but when I saw Patience Hodgson walk up on ...

Day two of Monolith was a vast improvement on Saturday. There was a little falter at the beginning when a late cabbie meant missing We Were Promised Jetpacks. But, we did get there in time for ...The GratesI have long adored this Aussie group's addictive pop music and had heard a lot of great things about their live show. So, I was pretty excited to see their set. Lead singer, Alana, was the em...
