AMG Review of Gold
Andy Kellman
All Music GuideThe first two-disc Gap Band compilation, Gold offers more than most casual fans could possibly want, extending beyond the biggest hits -- "Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)," "Early in the Morning," "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," "Outstanding," "Beep a Freak," "Party Train" -- to include a sizable portion of lower-charting singles, album cuts, and B-sides, in addition to a pair of early-'90s solo tracks from Charlie Wilson. As of 2006, Ultimate Collection was the best available one-disc Gap Band compilation; it's enough to please those who only want the biggest hits, and Gold is ideal for those who aren't quite fanatical enough to seek out the studio albums.
