Rating: 9.3 The release of Rilo Kiley's latest record is a bittersweet moment for me. i really wanted to see you and rilo kiley play on monday but i was stupid and ate bad chinese food and was sick from food poisoning...when i should have been jumping around and singing along i was curled up in a ball on my bed trying not to throw up. but next time i promise i'll be there front and center...

Whilst waiting for the new Rilo Kiley album to come out, I decided to finally check out The Elected, Blake Sennett's side project. What I found was a mixture of dreamy vocals, catchy beats, and country-tinged pop rock melodies. The lyrics are very reminiscent of Rilo Kiley's quirky yet endearing narratives, weaving timeless tales of frustration and loneliness. there is a depressing lack of the elected on mog. especially since there is so much rilo kiley that it's a bit overwhelming. and even more especially since the elected are so much better than rilo kiley. (don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking jenny lewis, but the heart and soul of rilo kiley is and always will be blake sennet...it was his band first and no matter what jenny lewis says or does, it will always be blake's band...)
