The Drones - Havilah Review

This album sounds like Peter Garret finally grew a conscience and sired a son who knew what he was talking about. This Australian rock band is fronted by Gareth Liddiard; a sometimes angsty, sometimes whimsical vocalist who sings as if the world is ending. The sixth track, ‘Oh My’ implies this as he howls out [...]No related posts. Sorry.

The Drones’ The Minotaur A Brief Retrospective
about 1 year ago

The Drones are releasing an EP to keep anticipation up for their 2009 full length, Havilah. In addition to touring (dates below) ATP is issuing a rehash of old songs wrapped in a pretty bow that is a new track, The Minotaur. A new Drones song, that's great right? Right, unless it's already on their [...]~~

Guys...

I accidently stumbled upon this album. Coming from a country like Israel, it's not always easy to keep track of the Australian alternative scene... It's was not love at first sound- the tempo's slow and depressing, the guitars are hard and the overall atmosphere is very dark. And yet, I now realize that these guys are simply amazing... Highly recomended album :)

[04-02-2009] Even if you write off their more somber numbers as too subtle, The Drones have great songs to draw on when planning a set. The high point of this evening, though, is not a spirited rendition of "The Minotaur" or a crowd-pleasing trip through "Shark Fin Blues"; it's "Six Ways To Sunday," a mainstay of The Drones' live oeuvre that dates back to their first independent release in 2001...
