Having generated a significant buzz with their debut on the scrappy indie Lookout Records, the Dollyrots got snagged by Joan Jett and added to her own Blackheart label. Knowing that much about their history, their sophomore album is pretty much what you'd expect: it's the same tight, gleefully snotty ubblegum punk as what you heard on Eat My Heart Out, except maybe just a bit bigger and just a bit sonically fuller this time around -- par for the course when a band like this starts to mature and gets the budget of an established label behind it. If you loved their debut album (and you did), then you'll love Because I'm Awesome at least as much -- in part because of the ironic whimsy of the title track, in part because of the scorched-earth political patter song "A Desperate S.O.S.," in part because of the absolute crunchy perfection of "17," and in part because of the band's exhilarating appropriation of Melanie's 1970 ubblegum classic "Brand New Key." You might lose interest for a minute during the willfully goofy "Cat Calling," but you won't wander very long before being snapped back to attention. And you'll get a big kick out of the two videos included in the CD-R section. Spectacular.

From Popmatters.com:"After seeing the results of the 2000 election, long-time pals lead singer/bassist Kelly Ogden and guitarist Luis Cabezas decided that the world was headed for certain doom. Instead of gunning for a traditional day job, the two friends decided that they could have a lot more fun and reach more people by starting a rock band."That is the best 'let's start a band' story I hav...
“Brand New Key”.Arrgh… don’t let knowing the original scare you away just yet! (and things don't really kick-in till after about the 30sec. mark). My newest favorite new band the Dollyrots really rock up a song that has always annoyed me horribly. All about wanting some guy to fit his brand new key into her brand new roller skates or some such metaphor. .Singer Kelly Ogden still does the

Yes, I know, I'm late with today's song. But I've been very busy being productive today. (What the dick is up with that?) I've mowed the lawn, showered the icky yard work off me, made my way to the Box Office and have actually managed to be nice to the customers. I'm gonna crack pretty soon, I'm sure of it. But until then, I dedicate today's song to Casey:Because she's AWESOME!
