The Ditty Bops + Firs of Prey - Aladdin Theater (Portland, OR; July 29, 2009)

The Ditty Bops, who are making their way across the Northwest on the current leg of their latest tour, made a welcome stop in Portland this July 28th to present a luminous batch of songs at the Aladdin Theater. Pairing tasteful guitar comping and pitch-perfect voices, the duo (Amanda Barret and Abby DeWald of Los Angeles) draws from a broad and original repertoire that tends to veer towards cra...

You know, I've been hearing alot about the Ditty Bops and thought it was really cool the way they are doing their tour, on bike followed by a trusty bio deisel, always thinking that's the way to go myself. But, I must say, I haven't actually listened to the Ditty Bops untill this morning and I am absoluly impressed. Having only heard this song should I go with the self titled or Moon Over The F...

Driving back from the desert the other day, Gregor and I listened to hours upon hours upon hours of girls with guitars (and other stringed instruments). My favorite by far was The Ditty Bops. These eminently photogenic women make uptempo, old-timey folk with a 20s tinge, extremely clever songwriting, and a pleasantly cynical tone. Listen to them performing Angel with an Attitude (my current favo...

All my dreams crushed!

Today, fellow MOGgers, you get a dose of my goofy ass humor that I hope won't offend anyone just days into my MOG debut.I just found out some crushing and sad news.It turns out the two young women that front The Ditty Bops, Amanda and Abby, are actually a couple. That's sad.No! It's not sad that they are bisexual or lesbians! That's just fine with me and none of my business. It's just sad that my...

If I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate

There is no way you can listen to this song and stay in a bad mood. You just can't. It's my favorite song to sing in the car with my sister. She goes for the soprano line and I hit the alto. You could be having the most bitter argument of all time and you would still have to stop what you were doing and bop around to this delightful track. The Ditty Bops for world peace!
