Image used totally without permission. Sorry. Photo by Matt Rourke of the AP MP3: Dirty Projectors - Police Story YANP is almost exclusively a music blog, but I just had to throw a little light on this. For the full story, go here. I am not going to sit here and tell you that the Dirty Projectors didn't put on one of the best shows I have ever seen...because they did. I am ALSO not going to sit here and tell you these are the best pics I have ever taken...because they are not. But they don't suck so check some out after the break and the rest of the set on our Flickr page HERE.Golden BootsDirty Projectors

Look what I found today.

I took a stroll outside of Mog today and checked out other blogs. Found some cool stuff and thought I would share. It's funny for Anna's "MOG Witch Project":http://mog.com/Anna/blog_post/101567 post she had Patrick Wolf's "Magic Position" video posted (which I hadn't heard/seen and thought was awesome) and today I come across this school choir singing the song. Boy am I behind when the song ...

Dirty Projectors Give Black Flag Songs A Whole New Sound
over 2 years ago

Today's "Song of the Day" on NPR is one that seems hauntingly familiar to old-skool punk fans. But those who would get that sense of recognition would probably brush it off, thinking "Bah, this is a catchy pop song. I don't listen to pop..." Well, this is true, it is a pop song, but it once was a raging punk song, blasted out of crunchy guitar cabs and screeched over by Henry Rollins in the ...

Dirty Projectors - Rise Above(Dead Oceans, 2007)9 stars out of 10So many ways to begin talking about such a great work - likely to be the year's best album - that it's unfortunate that I've got to pin it down to one, but I'll choose Jorge Luis Borges. In 1939, Borges published a short work of fiction called "Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote" (read it here) in which a writer takes on a major...

Fucked for Life

I'm kind of embarrassed about this, but apparently, my most played song for the week is now "Fucked for Life," by the Dirty Projectors. There's nothing wrong with the song. It's sort of a baroque chamber pop, afro-funk, free-range, Ph.D candidate stoked on life and drugs kind of thing. Out there, but interesting. I thought it sounded like a cross between Akron/Family and Skeleton and the Gi...

Finally finally finally the Austin radio station KVRX has posted a couple mp3s of the Dirty Projectors' live set from circa SXSW (and circa the show I saw them at during Noisepop this year). (That was a link to their Myspace where you can hear some fairly amazing studio tracks but this is a link to those live tracks.) If you haven't heard the New Attitude EP, I recommend this be the first thing...

SXSW: Dirty Projectors' "Stillness Is The Move" FTW
8 months ago

Dirty Projectors have been playing only Bitte Orca tunes in their SXSW sets, and Amrit tells me yesterday's performance at Emo's Jr. was unreal (his pics adorn this post). The crowd apparently cheered so loudly, Dave Longstreth had to plug his ears. NPR's recording of the indie sextet's earlier gig at The Parish (3/19) suggests that if you're in Austin today, you should be at the Press Here Gar...

Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffman channels Beyonce/Mariah/Whitney over some hypnotic West African guitar steez on the group's rad new single, "Stillness is the Move." I sort of miss the subtle chord change from the live version, but this is still a great, great jam:edit: video removed from youtubeThe Stillness is the Move 12" single is out April 21. Consider it pre-ordered.*************

Zine Review of Dirty Projectors' "Bitte Orca"

Dirty Projectorsby Lavinia Jones Wright • June 9, 2009 Dirty ProjectorsBitte Orca(Domino, 2009)Dirty Projectors have come to define the forward-thinking movement that is the Brooklyn music scene, and, in a way, they have done much to preserve the scene's organic integrity while trends in noise and art-rock sweep through. It's the mantle quite a few bands have worn for a moment—TV on the Radio,
