All Music GuideWith bassist Bobby Haynes joining the four Jazz Crusaders (trombonist Wayne Henderson, tenor saxophonist Wilton Felder, pianist Joe Sample and drummer Stix Hooper), this hard-to-find LP features the group performing eight originals by group members (none of which caught on) plus a soulful version of "Brahms Lullaby." In the 1960s the Jazz Crusaders managed to be both accessible and creative, funky and swinging, traditional (with the influence of R&B and gospel) yet modern; no wonder the group was so popular in the jazz world.
