Let me just preface this with the thought that I know many people out there who have their own blogs come here looking for photos to illustrate them. I do not mind if you use my images of Lux or the Cramps or anyone pictured here BUT... please notify me/ask and give credit where credit is due and acknowledge that the photos came from punkturns30.comthank you,Theresa K.
The kids may not know of The Cramps, but the beloved psychobilly band has probably played there last gig as lead singer Lux Interior (or Eric Lee Purkhiser as it says on his birth certificate) died today in California. At the young age of 62.The cramps were just a unique act. Despite their visuals, live & on record covers, they were tame by punks standards. Human Fly: Garbage Man: Voodoo Rhythm:
The creepiest lead singer maybe ever has passed on. You know your'e getting old when all your favs from your early 20's are dropping off p-ractically every month. The Cramps were hilarious, if nothing else. I miss that kind of crazed abandon in rock music. It's hardly ever fun anymore
Lux Interior, founding member of and singer for legendary New York rock band The Cramps, passed away this morning in Glendale, California due to an existing heart condition. He was 61 years old. "Lux has been an inspiration and influence to... There's more on this story at the following link...
On June 13, 1978, The Cramps performed at Napa State Mental Hospital. That performance was legendary before it even began! Today, that performance is a piece of pop culture history that every music fan who has ever felt like an outsider has cleaved to their soul with a bit of ownership... who knew that Lux & crew would strike such a chord so early in the punk era? In the wake of Lux's sud...
It doesn't take a crystal ball to tell you that music is a visual medium and that punk rock is one of the more interesting visuals you can get.Back in the mid-to-late 90s, when I worked at VH1, we were not allowed to play videos by punk rock bands; we were not allowed to reference punk rock bands either. That was the domain of our sister channel, MTV. MTV also got to play heavy metal and hard...
By Grabthar’s hammer! I just realized that the Cramps are not playing their usual Halloween show in San Francisco this year. I don’t know exactly how many times the cadaverous Lux Interior, the dead-sexy Poison Ivy and cohorts have rattled the Warfield or Fillmore on October 31st with their patented brand of shockabilly, but it won’t feel as much like All Hallows’ Eve without them in town.
Pic from Northport/East Northport NY Public Libraries - not my library :(I work at a public library, and I've had good luck finding and reserving weird, wonderful and backlist CDs. Sometimes the inserts have not even been stolen yet! I like listening to a whole album by someone new to me, rather than just downloading a few tracks. Which good titles have you found at your library? Here are some o...
I enjoy The Cramps anytime of year but particularly around Halloween. I love the sheer irreverance of their stage presence and also that they have band members named Lux Interior and Poison Ivy. I had the chance to experience them live (because you don't just "see" a band like The Cramps ... it is an experience) and left the club grinning from ear to ear. If you don't know them or you haven'...
