Boots Riley was arrested and charged with "abusive language" by the Norfolk Police Department after dropping the F-bomb twice in a two minute period. Hey Moggers, This Friday I've got an interview with Boots Riley, 1/2 of Oakland based hip hop group The Coup. We'll be meeting up before a gig here in the East Bay. The Coup's style is a funky rap with a twist of soul and leftist overtures. Their '06 Pick a Bigger Weapon released via Epitaph generated a lot of buzz and two hhit singles. What's next? Couple days ago The Coup did a free show here in Eugene and I just gotta say that if you ever get the chance definitely check The Coup out live. Pam the Funkstress wasn't there but he had a live band with him and did so many of his greatest tracks. The Bay Area's best hip hop act have launched their own youTube channel, CoupTV. Boots Riley declared, "We have launched a new way to bring you the fight, the funk, and the fury." According to a press release from the Coup, the new channel features Coup music videos, live performances, and interviews plus video articles, comedy bits, as well as vids that go into depth about music production and writing. In what is being viewed as the first real attempt to challenge Tony Hawk's video game franchise, EA just upped the ante by releasing the soundtrack for their newest video game titled "Skate". While Tony Hawk games are known for their over the top action and tricks, Skate hopes to have a game that is more like real skate culture. Right now I am listening to "the Coup" As usaul, my posts are a year late. Keep in mind I've had this lp for about a year, well I know I purchased "Pick a Bigger Weapon"last year. Just had to say, this cd is great. The tragedy that is todays hiphop/rap frequently featured on the radio(coporate money taker)is missing this.
