In 1978 the groups that rocked London's Trafalgar Square in support of the Rock Against Racism message included The Clash. Well, The Clash won't be there this year (R.I.P. Joe Strummer) when they celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary on April 27th, but I expect the event will be well worthwhile.More info here, and a hat tip to Serge The Concierge for the heads up. ...I'm just saying, yo...I've decided to put down Nemesis, this depressing-ass Chalmers Johnson book I've been reading over the weekend and slapped on some slices from the only band that mattered at the highest decibel, to lift my spirits...despite what talking heads like "Manne" Coulter might say, I'll keep on going to see how far into Wonderland I can get with the help of the printed word...I guess everybody's a sucker for (their particular brand of) the truth...so be it... This month marks the 30th anniversary of the Clash's self titled debut. The Clash was their original UK release which proceeded the US release by two years (Give 'Em Enough Rope being the official US debut). The band became industry icons after the relase of the album. It also in part defined 'modern rock'. In 2000 Q magazine placed The Clash at number 48 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. Sometimes I spend so much time trying to find new music that I forget to revisit old favorites. In part, I think I'm afraid of burning out on stuff that I consider some of the best music ever, so it's good to infuse some new to change it up. But every so often I'll go back and play something really old and am still blown away by how good it is. A couple nights ago I fired up the turntable and put on The Clash's first album ... Thinking about great intros/ first tracks today. Both 1st tracks and 1st songs by an artist/band that really stuck out or struck you where you stood and forced you to take notice of that band or album by that band/artist. To me, The Clash's Janie Jones is the best 1st track ever and the first song of theirs that made me stand and take notice and realize that they really were 'The Only Band That Matters.' It amazes me that they chose a different track order for the US... MORE

Tonight at work, I got to talking with my co-workers about music and how my favorite band of all-time is The Clash (The Beatles are number 2 on my list, but I'd have to pick The Clash just barely over them).
