I always feel guilty listening to music at work. Maybe it is because I don't listen to the "easy listening" that attribute to cubicle dwellers, and my music habits demand that I devote at least more than 10% of my subconscious to what is playing. The Royal College of Art is best known as a centre of British art [Hockney, Kitaj, Conran…] but on November 5, 1976 it hosted A Night Of Treason, starring The Clash. Punk was going overground and the place was full of punks, the interested and students. The stage door policy was loose and backstage was as crowded as out front. In the past two months, I have come to learn that Joe Strummer was truly the collective voice of my generation. With the passing of Augusto Pinnochet in Chile ( having never been charged with any crimes ). And now the re-election of Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua, it's easy to see where these people dropped the ball. 27 years later this song has new validity.
