Such a great lryic, you can check out that song below...but just listening to it has put me in a Clash sort of mood...Cheers Joe.
David Bowie, Ronnie Wood and Paul Simonon. Would anyone care about their paintings if they weren't famous musicians?
I was fortunate to have been a teenager/college student during the halcyon days of punk rock, and was fortunate to have experienced the electric feeling when bands like the Ramones, the Damned, and 'the only band that matters', the Clash, were in the midst of their finest hour(s). 'London Calling' is still one of my all-time favorite albums, and, in my opinion, no record collection is complete without a copy. Every track's a winner - here's one of the standouts among the... Today, as I write this, it’s the traditional Day of the Dead - Mexico’s annual Dia de Los Muertos - celebrating the loved ones that we’ve lost in the past, recent and distant. For many of us in the MOG community, the holiday has a dark resonance this year, due to the untimely and all-too-premature death of our friend and colleague Chris “Crash” Pryor. On this Day of the Dead, I’m marking his departure from the mortal world, acknowledging the valuable contributions that he ... MORE
No band will ever hold a candle to the originality offered by such an amazing band. Every song bursts with an energy and soul that has no equal. I can't remember the first time I heard The Clash, and it really doesn't matter. The music has a familiar feel to it- a natural flow as though I've always known it. Does that even make any sense? The songs inspire me, challenge me, make me feel compelled to take action and change the world. Brilliant. Just brilliant. I wish I had ... MORE
Yeah. I know, everyone under the sun knows The Clash, but I woke up this morning to Revolution Rock and thought I'd let everyone else have a taste.
I think a lot of their best stuff was the heavily reggae-influenced sound. And thank goodness for it, because we may never have had bands like The Specials or Bad Manners without it.
I have a lot I really wanted to say about this tune, how it's invaded my brain because of the social D cover of it... which you can listen to here... But... I'm in the middle of moving house, 24 hours from now I will be on my way out of MN and back on the road to Ann Arbor (proto punk ground zero).... anyway The Clash, never were my favorite punk band, I've liked a few of their tunes here and there but always found The Damned were more my thing... anyway enjoy, a... Since MOG-world ignored my previous post on rock limericks, ( http://mog.com/soda/blog_post/98092 ) I'm trying again. I'm stubborn that way.
Nate Patrin over at Rebel Machine took on the challenge from Carl Wilson and converted all of London Calling into limericks. It is brilliant.

In order to entice people to read this post, I'll include Train in Vain.
Alarm noted in my Ian Hunter post that the clip was from the show Fridays. Great show. I remember back being a senior in high school when the Clash were on. One of my firends and I got a whole bunch of people to gether to watch that night. We were probably the only two people in our high school who even knew who the Clash were at that point. It goes without saying that my other friends just did not get it. Those same high school seniors became huge fans several years... MORE
My friend Adri and I have this theory that certain songs are good solely because when they play on the radio, you rejoice, because they are so so so much better than the rest of the crap on the air. I originally thought that the Clash was one of those bands for me--other illustrious members include the Spin Doctors, the Smiths, the Cure--but then I listened to London Calling straight through and goddamn it, that is a solid record. I really want to get it on vinyl. So, here... MORE
