AMG Review of The Boys Won't Leave the Girls Alone
Matt Fink
All Music GuideAlthough maybe not quite as quintessential as some of the Clancy Brothers work from the same period, their third album for Columbia is certainly no disappointment. With the possible exceptions of "Holy Ground," "The Wild Colonial Boy," and the hilarious "Old Woman from Wexford," most of the tracks here are of a lesser known variety. No doubt, the fact that these are love songs and not rebellion or pub songs probably contributes significantly to that status. Still, the endless charm of tracks like "I'll Tell Ma," "Singin' Bird," featuring gorgeous group harmonies; and Ewan MacColl's "Shoals of Herring" find the Clancy Brothers at the top of their game and make this collection a reasonable purchase for hardcore fans.
