A more scattershot album than its companion piece, In Person at Carnegie Hall, In Concert nonetheless features the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem in fine form. Their voices are as strong as ever, and as usual, their enthusiasm for the music is infectious. The audience certainly sounds like they're having a great time, laughing at the on-stage banter and allowing themselves to be goaded into joining the musicians in song. The main problem with the record is that it lacks any standout numbers. There are some excellent tracks, including spirited renditions of "Red-Haired Mary" and "In This Windy Old Weather," but nothing that comes close to the phenomenal "Children's Medley" that graces In Person at Carnegie Hall. If you're not already a fan of the group, this album sadly won't help make you one. But completists will certainly want to add it to their collections.
