NWW & A Strange Longing for Flies & Cars with Long Necks ;)

Leave it to my iPod shuffle to once again nail it. (sure I wish it was also capable of nailing other things ;) - but 'til that happens - I will have to satisfy myself with it's uncanny ability to play what I really need to hear about 80% of the time or so).Perfect case in point - THE CARS... & the song - JUST WHAT I NEEDED !!!Ahhhhh - yes, they're not all I've got tonight - but they are soundi...

Messing with Your Head (in Stereo)

(I'm not sure that the tracks i uploaded for this post are going to play. If not, you can hear "*the Ramones track here*":http://electronictiger.net/avail/center.mp3, and "*the Steeleye track here*":http://electronictiger.net/avail/weaver1.mp3.)I did a post in which i touched (sort of incidentally) on the way stereo was handled in Sixties record production (mostly badly).*Spike* made a comment...

Essential 80's Tracks, Part 64

Skinny ties abound in this 1980 video from The Cars for "Touch And Go". This isn't an obscure track by any stretch of the word, it still gets airplay on classic rock raio. But I figured I'd include it because Panorama is kind of the "lost" Cars album. Most (not all) people thought it sucked when it came out, especially after the pop genius of their debut, and the follow up, "Candy-O". I always ...

This Is Priceless

We've been practicing a lot of cover songs lately. Also switching around instruments. I feel like we're discovering a bunch of new bands that have been hiding inside our band.Alas I was unsuccessful in convincing Satomi Ed and John to let me sing "Good Times Roll" by The Cars. But I guess it's just as well, as someone has beaten us to the punch: It is indeed amazing to see this bec...

i revisited this album today.what an amazing and wonderful collection of songs-all on the debut release...review from allmusic.com:The Cars' 1978 self-titled debut, issued on the Elektra label, is a genuine rock masterpiece. The band jokingly referred to the album as their "true greatest-hits album," but it's no exaggeration - all nine tracks are new wave/rock classics, still in rotation on roc...

A little sad...

My heart is a little sad as I'm listening to the cars, because this song is automatically associated with circuit city now. Damn commercials using the chorus of this song... it's like when I hear Iron and Wine's cover of "Such Great Heights" I think of M & Ms... why, why, why? I mean, I like M & Ms, and I don't entirely hate circuit city, but I hate I instantly associate some great songs with p...

Here, by 'underrated', I'm referring to artists that I enjoy that have a relative lack of mainstream acclaim and appeal in the present, though many (if not all) of the artists below have been critically acclaimed and some even did reasonably well sales-wise in their heyday. Check out the list below of my picks for best underrated bands, suggestions from Tumblr users, and be sure to name your pe...
