Posting this may get me flamed by the hipsters and metal purists, but what the Hell! I remember my sister obsessively playing Carpenters records growing up. Then, it seemed like their music was played at every wedding we attended in the 70's. I used to HATE their music (especially the ultra-whiz Christmas album). A friend of mine at work gave me this incredible movie. It's called "Superstar" and it's the Karen Carpenter story told with barbie dolls directed by Todd Haynes, sheer fuckin' genius.
I was so moved. I guess it's hard to find because her parents in it were portrayed as monsters, by pushing her to perform and to become more successful. But I sought out some of The Carpenters music. After seeing that brutal but incredible movie and watching this video clip of her perform... MORE

This is for you dermahrk. Karen Carpenter isn't someone I listen to all the time, but she is an artist with a truly unique and beautiful singing voice. I wonder what she would be doing if she were born 20 years later?
