AMG Review of Browns Sing the Big Ones from the Country
Greg Adams
All Music GuideAs the title suggests, this album is devoted to the Browns' renditions of recent country hits such as Buck Owens' "Where Does the Good Times Go"; Lynn Anderson's "Ride, Ride, Ride"; and Kenny Price's "Happy Tracks." It was conceived and executed for the album market in an era when many music buyers were happy to hear the current hits performed by their favorite artist rather than the original performers. "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive" might seem like an unlikely choice of material for the easygoing trio, but their version is haunting and quite enjoyable. The Browns were one of the smoothest and most pop-oriented harmony groups in the field of country music, and practically everything they recorded is worth hearing.
