...last week, The Breeders dropped their second release in as many years, the Fate to Fatal EP. Now, for most bands, this would be a non-issue, but for The Breeders to issue two releases so quickly is notable. Somehow, we were able to arrange an in-person interview with Kim and Kelly Deal. For us, this was a very big deal as we're very much in love with their work over the years. So, on a grey ...
Just one year after their 2008 LP 'Mountain Battles', The Breeders are set to release some new material in the form of an EP. Fans are usually used to waiting around the four year mark for some new Breeders material but it seems they may be having a bout of new found creativity as the EP comes literally just over a year after their previously mentioned fourth LP.
It started off with one song and ended with a four track EP named for it. The Breeders, the baby of Pixies bassist Kim Deal and twin sis Kelley, recorded "Fate and Fatal" at Fortress studios in London. It didn't stop there. They eventually took the project to Kim's basement where she also invited Screaming Trees/Queens of the Stone Age/Gutter Twins guitarist/vocalist Mark Lanegan over for a sin...
The sisters Deal are breaking a long-standing habit. Instead of waiting 5 or 6 years to give us new material, they are set to release a new EP one scant year after they gave us the Mountain Battles LP. Fate To Fatal is set for an April 21st release. The four song EP will include guest vocals from Mark Lanegan and a cover of Bob Marley's "Chances Are".The track listing for Fate To Fatal look as

Since the (first) break-up of The Pixies Kim Deal has not been known as a prolific producer of new music. Her albums with The Breeders are so far apart you could have a couple of babies before the next one is released. But now, a scant one year after the release of the full length Mountain Battles, we get a brand new EP from The Breeders, Fate To Fatal. Maybe the Deal twins should have waited a
Before the music industry's own personal credit crunch - caused, to varying degrees, by the ascent of the MP3, overpriced albums and the failing, ephemeral, television-created popstar - a good way for people to discover new bands (especially before the internet existed), was by record labels issuing cheap samplers displaying their wares. In fact, label samplers such as Cooking Vinyl's Delicatess...
I saw the Breeders show last night at Slims and had a blast. The band had a great rapport with each other and the audience. They played a good blend of old & new songs, and did a great job recreating their studio sound. The Deal sisters looked happy and healthy and very at ease. Almost like if they were just jamming in their living room and the audience was watching. Anyone else go & wanna comm...
The Breeders - Mountain Battles(4AD, 2008)7.5 out of 10Singing "I can feel it!" over and over again, Kim Deal hurtles tumbling with her band out of the speakers on "Overglazed." Two minutes of this excited psychedelic revelry pass, evoking the Who as much as Throwing Muses, and then the Breeders land in the semi-glorious, scatterbrained mud that is the remainder of Mountain Battles. It is the f...
There doesn't seem to be any middle ground on this one. Some absolutely love it, some detest it. I like the minimalist take but the vocal seems too cool/detached.Pod was the debut of The Breeders. Kim Deal (of the Pixies) and Tanya Donnelly (of Throwing Muses) were feeling somewhat stifled in their respective bands and wanted to branch out. They formed the Breeders almost as a goof but soon di...

Steve Albini produced this low key acoustic cover of Bob Marley's Chances Are by Kim Deal and The Breeders. Listen to the way her vocal sounds so delicate slightly lifting towards those high notes with his sister Kelley singing harmony. Beautiful.
Wow, I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since the start of Coachella. I was planning to do separate posts about the other great performances I felt were worthy to mention(& hadn't been mentioned much by others of the Coachella crew w/me) but decided to incorporate them into two posts. You're probably sick of hearing about it by now,oh well, too bad, heh.First up, The Breeders were incredibly fun ...
"It's SO not fair!" @=P This song by The Breeders I automatically call 'At The Fair' since that's the chorus in it. In fact when I went to look for it on the album I forgot it was called 'Saints'! Great little rocker of a song. The Breeders were so much fun live when I saw them at Coachella earlier this year too. I WUV them! I was inspired by Sam The Artist's post here about going to the fair ...
