Hard to believe it, but I’ve been writing 4-5 reviews a week lately, just like always…You certainly couldn’t guess that by my published output, which has dribbled down to one or two a week. California dreamers the Botticellis derive their name from a surfing term ("little barrel"), but Old Home Movies isn’t just a sunny romp through the local beach. Sure, the album has a summery mood, awash in lush hooks, but it’s also meditative and even a little forlorn at times. I was feeling pretty tired throughout the show, but I kept getting jolted awake by a certain hook or turn of phrase during all of the performances. The Botticellis in particular play lovely lovely indie pop, but I also really enjoyed watching the Morning Benders rock out, and the swirling psych-rock of the Otherside.
