Three of the Los Angeles installment of 88Boadrum's 88 minutes above and a minute of Zach Hill (he of the octopus arms) after the jump. Madness, right? See my photos here. [Continue reading...]~~

On Friday night, I attended the Boredoms' 88BoaDrum, on the Williamsburg Waterfront, conducted by Gang Gang Dance.I had missed out on last year's 77BoaDrum and was excited to hear that they were doing it again this year. Thanks to Lady Luck and Oh My Rockness, I was able to do so.The show was very impressive and very powerful. A spiral of 88 drummers surrounded the small gazebo-like stage, wh...

Live: 88Boardum @ La Brea Tar Pits, 8.08.08

All photos by David Greenwald88 drummers. 88 minutes. If I'd been stoned, I probably would've spent the Boredoms' 88Boadrum event seeing the face of God; as was, shit was pretty epic. Kudos to the Boredoms for composing an 88-minute drone marathon that wasn't boring and even more kudos to the 88 drummers, who hammered away for an hour-and-a-half with the enthusiasm of Olympic athletes -- and to...

A recent conversation with Mogger soulrocket inspired this post otherwise christened as my top 5 Asian cinema filmmakers who are music pimps (i.e. who make excellent use of music in their films). A few things of note: a) this is not a "best of all time" but a "most recent best" list; b) it is a list of filmmakers in East Asian cinema, technically speaking; and c) Bollywood is an entirely differ...

This past weekend, while millions watched Live Earth from their air-conditioned homes or took gasoline powered cars to the New Jersey/New York concert, thousands of cool kids bridged the gap between hippie and hipster beneath the Brooklyn Bridge at the Bordom’s 77-person drum circle. Drumming out! Photo by Charley Rogulewski The line to get into the Emprie Fulton Ferry State Park, billed as 77B.

Still bored but not with Boredoms!

Man oh man. I've been listening to Boredoms album Chocolate Synthesizer all day at work today. I'm so pumped. I feel like going crazy like a cartoon character after drinking the wrong potion in wacky land. Why are they so freaking awesome?! They're one of my all time faves. I never get bored of Boredoms!

Boredoms To Tour US This Spring

Japanese pop-noise rockers, Boredoms, have announced a US tour for Spring '08 that will hit big cities from L.A. to NYC. They may not be hitting many towns, but at least they are touring. I felt so teased when I found out they would be playing with Boadrum in NYC and nowhere else last summer. I haven't seen them live since their Lolla tour in 1994 or 5 so I would be stoked to see them in SF!...

88BoaDrum: The Boredoms, Now with 91 Drummers

There is good news and better news. The good news is that the Los Angeles edition of 88BoaDrum featuring the Boredoms was a smashing success, an outstanding experience with a beauty and power not to be understated and a couple thousand happy customers. The better news is that if you saw the Boredoms within the last several months, you can stop kicking yourself for missing 88; you saw a slightly...

On 7/7/07, a lot of couples got married, a lot of bands played at Live Earth, and Tupac Shakur did not, as far as we know, "return to the world from his faked death." But the gathering of superstars and their supersongs at Live Earth was, to some, practically a sigh of apathy compared to the cosmic gathering at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, against the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge. A...

Boredoms - Super Roots 9Commmons, 2007I know there isn't much a man can say that will convince an average so-and-so to order a CD on import. So unless you're impulsive like that, or unless you're an out-of-the-loop Boredoms fan, or unless you're in Japan, treat this as a reminder to get your hands on this release in any reasonable fashion when you can (and I'm a modern gentleman, so "reasonable...
