On their second major release, this Seattle-based garage-rock trio clean up their dirt-dragged riff rock and demonstrate an impressive knowledge of their musical roots. In a world where MySpace plays count more than tour bus mileage and blog leaks spread faster than word of mouth, the Blakes, who gained attention after a series of reputably chaotic cross-country tours, are relative anachronisms....
I think one reason I've had a hard time of coming up with a review for this record is that it's kind of hard to define. The lead track, "Two Times," is a screaming hunk of anger, while two songs later we've got a pop piece called "Commit" that's everything you'd hoped the Strokes would be but aren't. "Vampire" goes even farther down that poppy road, but it works, even if it sounds like you've...
...I'd have to buy you drinks. That's how birthdays work here. The person getting OLDER buys drinks/food/etc for his/her friends. But they have to bring him/her presents. I'm actually kinda relieved that you're not here. Don't get me wrong, I wuve you, but buying drinks for all of you would bankrupt me ahhaha :PSo, instead of drinks, I give you...1. My latest favourite song, The Blakes' Vampi...

Caught a sort of on the way to SXSW showcase Monday night and have happy tidings.Princeton - Despite looking 12 years old, these guys played a pretty damn good, laid back set even without their drummer. Also, they're almost ridiculously nice guys and seem to have that natural touch for playing off the audiences that so few bands do.Lake - Definitely a bit outside my usual type of music, but wonder
The Blakes have quite the back story, sounds sorta similiar to Kings of Leon. Plus, how cute that 2 of them are named Snow and Garnet, like pet bunnies! Love the angsty vocals, driving rhythm and muted, yet jangly twangy guitar. I'm a fan!
This morning, I noticed a little black dot hanging in the air in my closet. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a spider. My immediate thoughts were: 1) I don't spend enough time at home 2) I've been playing this song too much and the spider thought it'd be welcome here. I'm leaning towards option 2. :)Thanks to Amber for introducing me to this band. I've been enjoying them a lot...
