black attack

(51)
Blog post image previewPut on your Ray-Bans, summer is just around the corner and The Black Keys are back -- this time bigger, bolder, and better than ever before. While some tracks may easily be compared to The White Stripes, The Black Keys have a deeper and more soul-searching sound that cuts to the bone of blues rock. Their 2008 album, "Attack & Release" is more ferocious than all of their previous records put together and seals their fate as a classic blues rock band suitable for barbecues, ... MORE

One Half Of The Black Keys Releasing Solo Debut

Artist:
Other Tags: Dan Auerbach, Patrick Carney, Keep It Hid, Nonesuch Records
Bluesy rock duo The Black Keys consists of vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney. Together they make sometimes great, sometimes unispired rock but now Auerbach is testing the solo waters for a while. Keep It Hid is out February 10 on Nonesuch Records and see's the man take the reins of all the instruments used and all the production and engineering duties.

The Black Keys left their basement for the recording of their Attack & Release album, but they took their sound with them. Guitarist-vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney employed the services of producer Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse) and set up shop in a small studio called the Suma in Cleveland (notably one of the last studios where they cut their own vinyl). It took them a mere two weeks to all lay down all the tracks for Attack & Release , and... MORE

Alright, I’ve been really negligent of this column. I have no excuse — unless laziness counts? Anyway, I’m going to try to catch up. This time we’re looking at Episode 7’s music for both Gossip Girl and 90210 (this is NOT what aired this week, so please spare me the "corrections").  Gossip Girl took Episode 6’s [...]

The Black Keys released their new album Attack & Release earlier this week. To celebrate here's the Ohio-based duo's new video for "Strange Times," which takes you back to those good ol' fifth grade laser tag parties. The Black Keys kick off their tour in support of Attack & Release tomorrow (April 4th) in Portland, Oregon. Most dates are sold out, but fans can also catch them on tour again at the end of May when they open up for the Raconteurs.

Tour Dates: The One-Man Dan Band

Artist:
Other Tags: Andrew Bird
Dan Auerbach is best known for being half of blues-rock duo, Akron’s own The Black Keys. The singer/guitarist, who sounds remarkably like Warren Haynes, seems to have found the two-man format a bit cumbersome as he will release his solo debut Keep It Hid on February 10. The album is said to be mixture of [...] by Some Dude Leave A Comment

Blog post image previewThe Black Keys take their sound out of the garage, or at least have converted the garage into a rec room with an arcade game and some carpet squares. Adding minimal overdubs - keys, guitar, vox, even flute and banjo at points (!) - but they remain true to their focused style. You can hear another track at their web site www.theblackkeys.com while you play a faux old-school vector arcade shooter in the style of Battle Zone or Red Baron. Good for a laugh at least.

Album: I'm Not There [Original Soundtrack]

Blog post image previewDowntown at my local music shop today, I was suddenly compelled to buy the soundtrack to "I'm Not There," even though I haven't seen the movie (yet). Included in the thirty or so contributing artists are the likes of Cat Power, Sonic Youth, Mason Jennings, The Black Keys, Jack Johnson, Yo La Tengo, Karen O, Sufjan Stevens and Charlotte Gainsbourg. It is quite an epic compilation, spanning 34 tracks over two CDs, and it was well worth the price (although I admit...I probabl... MORE
