Rich and Chris Robinson and the Black Crowe ensemble have come to Sydney and probably given us (those lucky enough to be in attendance) the best set-list during this trip to Australia. Bearded, booted and with Newcastle Brown Ales gracing the amps, the band looked relaxed. Kicking off with Movin’ On Down The Line from their latest Warpaint, up front we were shaking and dancing as you should at a Crowes offering.

The sound was spot-on from the start and you could tell that... MORE

Warpaint is the blues and southern rock at its best. After six years the Crowes haven't lost it at all. I was a little hesitant about getting it but once i heard Luther Dickinson joined, i quickly changed my mind. This album has exceeded my expectations and i love it all. His slide guitar rifts keep your foot tappin the whole way through. Here is my favorite song on the album "Whoa Mule". Also check out the songs "oh Josephine" and "Move it on down the line".

The Black Crowes have grooved out their best Lp since Amorica. Can't get this one out of my head.
Warpaint is the first studio album from the Black Crowes in seven years. On Warpaint, the driving force is the blues.
Warpaint marks the recording debut of two new band members - guitarist Luther Dickinson and keyboardist Adam MacDougall - who join Chris, Rich, drummer Steve Gorman and bassist Sven Pipien. Dickinson, of North Mississippi Allstars, officially steps in to replace ... MORE

And well they should. However they claim that it was a
"preview", a prediction of what the album would probably sound like, based on the band's previous output and the one song available for preview (which is presumably typical of the album). What they're really apologising for, actually, is giving a rating to the album, and saying it was a review. (They apparently did the same thing to an album from Nas.) Atlanta's Creative Loafing has (well, had - it's b... MORE

Wow. This takes balls... and not exactly the 'good' kind of balls. Like if I ran across enemy lines in a hail of gunfire....that might be 'good' balls. This is not that. Oh, and the Pulitzer goes to: "It's either an educated guess preview or no coverage at all, so in this case we chose the former." -Maxim editor via email, in response to a seemingly fraudulent album review of an album they did not possess. Brilliant. -J from www.blackcrowes.com ... MORE

“It’s about freedom, and what revolution used to stand for, how you’ve got to make one of your own and make it last,” singer Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes shouts as the brawling guitars of “Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution,” the opening song on the Crowes’ first studio album since Lions in 2001, boom through the stereo speakers in a friend’s apartment in Brooklyn. “It’s like the last line of the song,” Robinson says, then singing along to himself on the record, “... Chuck Leavell is one of those musicians most people have heard, but few have heard of. He's had a long and storied career both as a side musician and as the front man for his own jazz-fusion group, Sea Level (C. Leavell). That really cool piano solo in the Allman Brothers' Jessica? Chuck Leavell. The guy whose piano solo raised Eric Clapton's eyebrows in the Unplugged version of Old Love? Chuck Leavell. That sort of nondescript guy sitting behind the keyboards in yo... MORE

The Black Crowes will release their first album in seven years Warpaint independently on March 4th via the band’s own newly-formed Silver Arrow Records. Warpaint is the follow-up to the Black Crowes 2001's flop Lions which peaked at Number 20 in the US and sold less than any other Crowes album. During the seven year hiatus frontman Chris Robinson formed Chris Robinson & the New Earth Mud and released two albums: a self-titled album in 2002 and This Magnificent Distance ... MORE
