On December 6th my friend Jason sent me a link to a video. I finally got around to checking it on December 14th. Last night my shipment from Amazon containing The Bird And The Bee's catalogue arrived. This is not an uncommon occurrence. I'm rather excitable and enthused when something catches my fancy. I research it extensively, immerse myself in it, digest the details. I love to understand things thoroughly. The Bird And The Bee are Greg Kurstin and Inara George. Th... MORE
Despite my given name (that would be Michael), I'm no angel (arch, herald, or otherwise), and when it comes to singing, I'm certainly not Josh Groban (thank the fates). But, as some of my Trusted MOGgers know, this time of the year puts a song in my heart - and I don't mean "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer." It’s not a generic melody, and it changes, although lately I've been humming the "Feed the world!" chorus to the old Band Aid single. Somehow, that’s fitting. Not... MORE
the bird and the bee are releasing a new EP just in time for Valentine's Day! It's titled One Too Many Hearts and it will be available on February 12th. The last track on the EP is a cover of "Tonight You Belong To Me" which you may remember from the 1979 movie The Jerk when Steve Martin sang it with Bernadette Peters. According to a press release:
The EP’s closer, “Tonight You Belong to Me” is a duet sung by George and Gus Seyffert (a multi-instrumentalist who has tour... MORE
I saw this (video embedded below) last night on TV and then immediately went and bought the albums. The Bird and the Bee make delightful, sinister, dark pop songs with a Tropicalia feel. I was delighted to find that the band is made up of half of Geggy Tah, and Inara George (daughter of the late founder of Little Feat). Released on Blue Note, the two records I scored (self titled and the Please clap your hands e.p.) are both delightful. This video is an awful lot of ... MORE

For those readers who've visited often, and even for those who haven't, over the last year and half or so, I've consistently enjoyed the products of the bird and the bee (read about them here and here ). So when Obi Best 's album came my way, I listened with anticipation. The group is fronted by Alex Lilly , a back-up singer for the retro-pop bird and the bee, and therefor I expected to be similarly pleased with her new band.

This past Saturday I found myself running to my local Rite Aid for a Dayquil/Nyquil pack( after 6 years in LA, I'm not used to winter anymore)while comparing drowsy and non drowsy formulas I heard the strangest song sandwiched between Vanessa Willams 'Save the Best for Last' and Natalie Cole's version of 'Merry Christmas Baby'. I'm not sure who's genius idea it was to put The Bird and The Bee in MOR rotation but I'm very glad for it. This tune has been growing on me all ye... MORE
Wow. It doesn't feel like it, (especially here in Georgia where it was 70 degrees outside yesterday) but it's December Eve! Time to pull out all that tinsel, string lights, and most importantly, the holiday tunes! Speaking of tunes, I found a great twist on an old holiday favorite by The Bird and the Bee. Now I know very little about this duo aside from hearing a song or two, but after running a quick wikipedia search, I found out that they're an LA pop/alternative duo sig... MORE
