The band that came out of the ashes of The Housemartins, The Beautiful South, according to the band in their own version of musical irony, issued a statement saying "The Beautiful South have split up due to musical similarities. The band would like to thank everyone for their 19 wonderful years in music." I had been a fan of The Housemartins and later The Beautiful South.
