Beastie Boys rocked the roof off the Terminal 5 in NYC Tuesday night to a crowd of 3,000 "die-hard" fans. The trio performed a mind-blowing 25 song set which included their greatest hits plus instrumentals off The Mix Up. The show was a benefit for the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, which incorporates music into therapy treatments of those suffering from neurological conditions, dementia, Parkinson's disease and even Alzheimer's. Judging from this report in... MORE

I had no idea that Moby is a board member of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF). The organization is built on the idea that "music has unique powers to heal, rehabilitate, and inspire - and that we can use music therapy to restore and improve our physical, emotional, and neurological health" which is pretty cool. Even cooler are the org's benefit parties, the next of which is happening on March 4th at Terminal 5 in NYC . The show will be hosted by Moby... MORE

Not at all New Wave and not really punk either so when the Beasties first hit in 1982 with the Pollywog Stew EP, as a bunch of NYC well to do street punks, they barely made a noise outside of the streets of Manhattan. It wasn't until the release of an unintentional 1983 single that they started to get a little attention. In order to perform this song live they brought in Rick Rubin to act as DJ, the song was titled "Cooky Puss" after the semi-famous Carvel ice cream cake.

Here is a link to HandBrake Their website says "HandBrake is an open-source, GPL -licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG -4 converter, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows. I have downloaded it for my Mac Leopard OS and it is working well. It contains preset settings for conversions, including iPod Hi & Lo res, Apple TV, iPhone & iTouch. Once you select your source and your preset, it converts no bother. A very cool way to get video in... MORE

The Beastie Boys are looking to secure a few artists to lay vocals over their last instrumental album The Mix-UP. Adam "MCA" Yauch recently spilled a few details about what the guys have in store, "[we
ve been] talking to some different artists who might do kinda like remixes and put vocals on it, so it wouldn't be us doing vocals on it. It would be kind of like a different version of the album, with a bunch of people guesting on it."
Yauch tells Billboar... MORE

20 years on....and the Beastie Boys still know how to throw a party!!
My first ever show as a Los Angeles resident couldn't have been better!
The B Boys came out rocking as a four piece rock band...with Adam Yauch on bass, Adam Horowitz on guitar and Mike Diamond fronting the band...not sure who was behind the drum kit. And two or three songs in and it was ON!
I have seen the Beasites 4 or 5 times now and this was their smoothest set yet. The band trans... MORE

Who needs a life when there's virtual reality? And these days, virtual reality has more to offer to music fans who want to thoroughly enjoy a live musical experience without the degrading heatstroke, sketchy porta-potties and hour-long lines for overpriced beverages. By now most people have heard of Second Life, the digital world where a person can slip into something more comfortable - say, a minotaur identity or a babe magnet - and hit any number of virtual venues to catc... Tonight will be the first ever performance by Mike D, MCA , Mix Master Mike and Adrock together in Brooklyn. Although each of the member have performed in the New York borough in one capacity or another, they've never done it together, even in the early days,
reports NME . "The clubs didn't really have hip-hop functions in Brooklyn back then, probably because they would end badly" said Adam 'MCA' Yauch. The gig will be this afternoon(Aug. 9) at McCarren Pool in ... MORE

Recently MOG news reported about a tech recycling program that The Beastie Boys have implemented at their live shows. It must be working out pretty well, because in addition to adding more dates to their nearly-sold-out tour, thus giving us more opportunities to recycle our old cell-phones PDA 's etc, the trio is also taking their eco-game to the next level.
For starters, the band will donate $1 from each ticket sale to an EcoFund. The donations will first go to ARIA ... MORE
