...If we're gonna be all obsessed and shit with Brian Wilson, I really like this intrumental from previously mentiond Pet Sounds album. I think this song just sounds like the sixties, caught right as America was falling headlong into those unsure and troubled times. This song is like the soft spot in a gray sky.

Well color me tickled pink. I have found the nexus where my need for visual information and facts combine. I had been working on some graphic design to chart the rise of what I call "The New Popular Sound" in music. TNPS genesis comes somewhere between The Beatles "Rubber Soul" and The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds albums. Damn. I hate this time of year. It's just about time for kick-ass lineups to come out from music festivals I have no chance of attending. Darn you lame-ass hometown in the middle of nowhere. In 1967 in Hawaii, group rehearsals for a Beach Boys TV show were taped (though I’ve read disagreements from collectors and trufans over the exact circumstances of these recordings). Here’s a virtually acapella version of “God Only Knows”.

So I've been a little obbsessed with Brian Wilson lately...mostly Pet Sounds. It's only in the past 6 months or so that I've ever really listened to the entire album, and not just the singles. It all kindof started earlier last year, when someone shattered my world, so to speak. Pet Sounds may essentially be the most perfect pop record of the past 50 years. If not of all time. If there ever was an album that was more perfect than this, please tell me.
