I have to believe that anyone who loves music can appreciate a musical. Musicals are full of music that's written to evoke serious emotion in the listener. In the musical, the image is less of a medium than the song. Ever since I've known this song, I've thought it belonged in a musical. Maybe a contemporary one, maybe a rock opera. Whatever the case, it serves its purpose best as a story teller.
