I just realized that I haven’t posted about The Antlers here on The Stu Reid Experiment, despite my ongoing love affair with their debut album, Hospice. I was sorely disappointed to miss them in Boston this past weekend (I was out of town, unfortunately) since the album is exceptional and their live show – which I was able to sample thanks to the inimitable NYC Taper – seems to match the sta
Put this in a box with Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, maybe your Grizzly Bear. These slow, contemplative, pulsing, ambient, echoing tracks are made for rainy days and dark nights of the soul. Haunting vibrato, long fermatas - there is some clear reference to Radiohead in here as songs bounce from soft and brooding to hard and fast. Let's be clear - this album is not named Hospice by acc...

Welcome to the summer months folks. In case you've forgotten since last year let me take a moment to remind you that the music industry sort of goes on hiatus at this time. Sure, there are all sorts of fun festivals and free shows going on throughout the world but if you want some new albums you're gonna have to really dig for what you want or wait patiently for one of the few good weeks to com...
New WaxFrom the offset, Brooklyn's The Antlers have set a melancholic mood with the artwork for their new album: one hand, tagged with a hospital identification band, limply stretches to touch another amidst a background of glowing red. Then there's the album's title, Hospice, which drudges up imagery of cold white hospital sheets and the creeping acceptance of a slow, impending death. It all s...
There's something internally inspiring about the Antlers new disc, Hospice. Laid out with spacial hooks and trance-like rhythms, Hospice wanders through the universal mind creating illusions of normalcy while withdrawing everything pure from the space around you.The Antlers, something of a My Bloody Valentine crossed with Sky Cries Mary, pull out all the stops on the 10 track disc. The songs, w...

With the release of the Antlers new album, Hospice, just weeks away, the band has announced a short set of tour dates.Hospice is a beautifully crafted gift to music in 2009 with reserved vocals surrounded by a landscape of noise. After a gazillion years ( 2 YEARS GO CHECK MY OLDER POSTS DAMN IT) of talking about them to everyone i know and basically doing everything but shoving the album in their lymph nodes-#The Antlers have a 8.5 from bitchfork. ok pitchfork but i heard someone say that and it was pretty funny in a ''hahah bitchfork...i love that place'' kind of way.http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13196-hospice/It...
Hospice is the follow-up to 2007's nuanced, upbeat In the Attic of the Universe, which became The Antlers' unexpected under-the-radar breakthrough thanks to blog word-of-mouth. Along with several other EPs, a successful CMJ and SXSW '08, and this past fall's midwest and east coast tour, Hospice is evidence of The Antlers'—and Silberman's--maturation.Listen: Antlers-Bear

Brooklyn’s The Antlers [MySpace] were on our radar shortly before their debut LP dropped and now that they’ve gotten “big enough to brag about”, we’re equal parts proud for them and just plain glad to really see and hear such strong reactions from our friends around the blogosphere. The band is currently touring [...]
In support of the re-release of The Antlers’ brilliant debut album Hospice comes an awesome animated video for the song “Two.” Some bubbling guitar, faceless people, and reverse ball-pit action provide a pretty cool visual for one of the more accessible songs on an album our own Dylan Conlin said had “feverish post-Arcade Fire intimacy.”
The Antlers are experts at preparing for the fall season (they do hail from Brooklyn, after all). This year, they're not only coming to a local venue near you in support of Hospice (TMT Review), but they're also blogging about some of their favorite autumn things. Check out this list from lead singer Peter Silberman: 5 Must-Have Fall Items for Touring: Wool Socks Flannels Pumpkin Spice Latte Th...

all the while i’ll know we’re fucked and not getting unfucked soonThe Antlers – BearI’ve stumbled across a number of tracks off of The Antlers recent Hospice LP and was left generally underwhelmed. Then “Bear” came along and grabbed my ear. I’m not sure whether it was the song’s quiet-loud beauty or the above awesome [...]
This past Friday night was the album release party for this year's "it" band The Antlers. I can't remember the last time I've gotten that sweaty and gross at a show - I don't know if something was wrong with Mercury Lounge's AC or what... But it was stifling hot, even before it got uber crowded. Other than getting soaked in the sweat of many other people besides just myself, it was a great
