This is a video from 1982, but I think it's one of my favorite live versions of this song... Great video quality too!
The limits of full-time session playing frustrated Allman. The few months in Muscle Shoals were by no means a waste, however, because besides meeting the great artists and other industry professionals he was working with, Allman had rented a small, secluded cabin on a lake and spent many solitary hours there refining his playing. Perhaps most significantly, at F.A.M.E. Allman got together with R&B and jazz drummer Jaimoe Johanson, who came there to meet Allman at the urgin... MORE
The ABB performing what has become a staple of their shows in recent years, Willie Dixon's "The Same Thing", live at the Beacon, 2004.
I'm not going to try to make a list of great guitar solos. It's been done all too often, and it's extremely difficult to come up with any kind of objective criteria for deciding whether or not a guitar solo is "great" in some sense. What I will do is, from time to time, share some solos that I think people should listen to, but I'll also endeavor to tell you why I think you should listen to it. A lot has been said, and gets repeated, about the classic ABB tunes, even regarding the more recent performances. Dreams, Whippin' Post, Statesboro Blues, Elizabeth Reed...the list is long, and the songs are all worthwhile. But The High Cost of Low Living is easy to pass over. The composition is mundane, and the lyrics are almost cheesy ("The high cost of low living, 'bound to put you six feet in the ground"). There's little about the song itself that sets it apart fr... Allman Brothers Band at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum, New Haven, CT, August 23, 1992. I saw so many shows at the Coliseum over the years...the place was a dump really but in the eighties everybody played there! This site has a great list of shows that played there, amongst other interesting trivia about the building... The Allmans were hot this night. In general, I think '92 was a peak year for the reunited version of the band... SetlistDon't Want You No MoreIt's ... MORE
I hate the rain in the summer. Well at least when I have tickets for Jones Beach. Some people like outdoor venues. I hate them on nights like this. It was cold and wet. At least the show was smokin' hot. This was the first time I saw Ratdog. In the post Dead era, I have tended to be a Phil Phan, but this Ratdog show will lead me to spread the bucks around a bit more. They were very good and, I thought, very tight. Kimock was great on guitar, Bobby sounded good. ... MORE
It was a nice Sunday afternoon, a perfect day for a concert. I left out of my town and headed down to Virginia Beach, the traffic wasn't very bad surprisingly. When we arrived at the amphitheater, we got our parking spot and just chilled for a while, just hanging out on our lawn chairs. As the bicycle cops did their rounds one finally made its way over to us and told us that we couldn't tailgate, so we had to pack up the chairs and food. After that we just headed insid...
