It's a bloody slagging review .. have a look at the reply and the review below. here's another video of thiers that I like taken out on a boat. Love the acoustic style of this band and the various string intruments they play. Also a clip of the bands inteview with the Daily Fix.   Dear Ian,

Screamy Vocals Friday

(84)
Blog post image preview

Today's (controlled yet) screamy vocals were brought to my ipod courtesy of KCRW's Top Tune which was brought to them courtesy of the vocal chords belonging to Mikel Jollet, lead singer of The Airborne Toxic Event. There's nothing more romantic than a screamy love song, in my book. Other notable screamy vocals can be heard on Okkervil River's "Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe". A sentence fragment if I've ever. Heard one. Who's your favorite screamy vocalist or song?

Blog post image preview So the story goes, the band made a huge impression when, as an unsigned band, they made it on to a big alternative LA radio station, KROQ's playlist and within hours they had mutlipe Big Label Record deals thrown at them with this song to which none of them were accepted.. their souls remain in tact and here you are: Sometime around Midnight!   here are just a few of the Reviews..   "The best debut CD of 2008." Wow. What a horrible venue. The Grand Ballroom at The Regency is one of the most obnoxious, awful places to see music that I have ever had the unfortunate luck of having to visit. My woes began when I went up to the bar and asked where I could find some water. The bartender said, "That’ll be...

we didn't - or for that matter still don't - know much about the airborne toxic event . but after reading their open letter to the guy from pitchfork who trashed their record, and then hearing "sometime after midnight," our interest has been goosed. we try (and more or less succeed) to keep free & clear of pitchfork, precisely because of the kind of pomp and snark and attitude infecting this review . think they forget, sometimes, that it's great to have an opinion - in so ... Yesterday, Pitchfork reviewed the debut cd from The Airborne Toxic Event - an LA band that has generated major buzz across the country. The album received a 1.6 from critic Ian Cohen who writes:
In a way, The Airborne Toxic Event is something of a landmark record: This represents a tipping point where you almost wish Funeral or Turn on the Bright Lights or Is This It? never happened as long as it spared you from horrible imitations like this one, often sounding more inspi

I would suggest that you play this very, VERY loud! Especially for this part:   But you were always a mess
You were always aloof
Yeah, it's awful, I guess
But it's the awful truth   God bless my favorite musicians for being able to turn their angst into such life affirming art!

Ah, I love it.  I got a simple, unassuming email today with the header, “An Open Letter to Pitchfork from Airborne Toxic Event”.  I smiled immediately knowing exactly what the email would contain; another ridiculously harsh review and a very well thought out, subtlely sarcastic response back from the band.  SOUND Team went the more [...]

Blog post image preview It is easy to forget that Los Angeles-area bands are as varied musically and stylistically as the very people who live within the city. So when the opportunity arises to see four different genres come together all in one night, it’s fun to be reminded that such musical diversity exists in the confines of one location. On this occasion, The Airborne Toxic Event enjoyed its first residency at The Echo and was joined by Low vs. Diamond, Radars to the Sky and The Happy Hollows....
