"You guys are great! Hey, can I get some more audience in my monitor please!" The Acorn are adored by many, but if they needed to endear themselves to the few who didn't know about them, that statement from Howie Tsui whipped them into a restrained frenzy.
The Acorn, are having a great 2009. In January they were given a shout-out by Kanye for their "Crooked Legs" video which he called "beautiful," they are also currently getting ready for their Winter UK Tour, & will be supporting Fleet Foxes for a couple of shows at the end of this month, & elbow for about a dozen more shows in March (all dates below). The album (titled Heron Act, which is available physically only in the US and digitally worldwide via Paper Bag) was released yesterday and features a collection of live recordings, b-sides and rare songs. To go along with our recent update, The Acorn are having a tremendous 2009 thus far. Here's a sample of the album, [...]
The Acorn has released a new video for the track Crooked Legs from the album "Glory Hope Mountain" -- an animated sequel to The Flood Pt. 1 -- directed by Christopher Mills (Interpol, Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene). Crooked Legs by The Acorn from Paper Bag Records on Vimeo.
After an amazing year of touring and releases by The Acorn, Rolf Klausener recently recorded 2 EPs worth of music over the holidays and has decided to give them away for free as the band's gift to you this holiday season! Here's what Rolf had to say about it:I woke up on the morning of December 24th with the urge to drop 12, thirty-second songs inspired by the myriad of friendships and expe...
The Acorn cultivates a lush and mellow vibe that doesn't always grab my ear. This track, however starts right off with a great melodic vocal hook and tribal rhythm that sustains the excitement level throughout. The sound reminds me of Poi Dog Pondering and the Talking Heads 'Naked' album.Listen and download: http://cornx2.us/~03ms6
Just as much as the early Saturday post-Halloween show at Schubas could be described as a celebration of Swedish music, the same could be said for the late show being a happy mini showcase of the sounds of Canada. Headlined by The Acorn , Ottawa's five piece played their interesting mix of blissful indie folk rock. It was difficult not to also adore the sounds of Toronto's cute indie pop band...

My camera, light-devouring, ISO-hungry beast that it is, refused to play nice at the Acorn 's Oct. 24 Spaceland show. But luckily you can get more than a taste of the band's invigorating folk thanks to the LaundroMatinee , who just captured four songs from the Ottawa act. As on their recordings, the Acorn play with clean, well-woven arrangements, becoming more forceful live without dirtying...
One of the joys of occasionally writing about music is that sometimes people will send you things you haven't heard of before and would otherwise dismiss because you have to wade through so much rubbish. There is the chance that you cast away pearls of
