So - it's thursday, i'm at work, and i am so tired. Last night we made it out to see the Gutter Twins perform at the Avalon - a nice venue, but one i don't find myself going to often. The last time i was there, in fact, was to see Greg Dulli. this was the last stop on their US tour, and there i was again - this time it was Dulli and Mark Lanegan. Not a show i would have liked missing. the lights were low, the stage was set, the music was perfect, the vocals killed ... MORE
NC State, North Carolina, and Duke all begin opening practice tonight at seven p.m. Eastern along with the rest of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Locally, State and Duke are having closed practices for their first night, but Carolina is having their usual schmooze fest where the players shoot layups, sign autographs for girls, and pretend they dont exist to sell UNC sports apparel. Okay, that was catty, but I'm not a Carolina fan so who cares? It's basketball time, baby.... MORE
The Short Stop is Greg Dulli's bar in LA. I've wanted to go to it last time I was in LA, but I forgot the address. When we head there for the Peter Bjorn and John show, I kinda hope we have time to stop and check it out. Apparently there's PBR.
The Short Stop.
And this gem from last year is supposedly about the area.
Ever get the feeling you had too many bootlegs? Like you need some sort of a cleansing process from the drama of properly tagging and cataloging hundreds of shows? I'm sitting on around 80 concerts by The Afghan Whigs and Twilight Singers. I haven't traded a bootleg in a long time (and please, don't send any requests, because I'm just not interested). I'm lucky enough that people know I'm a fan and send them to me, gratis. A year ago, I bought a ton of Super Jewel Box ... MORE
Sweet! I went out to my mailbox not 10 minutes ago to find a lumpy little package from One Little Indian Records containing the new Twilight Singers EP _A Stitch In Time_. Sweet! The album kicks of with the dulcet tones of Mr. Mark Lanegan, so ladies, be ready. I know he has a fan club on here...It's good, probably won't win them any new fans, but it's a right treat for the initiated. If you're already a fan, buy it now. Otherwise, start out with _Blackberry Belle_ ... MORE

with the pheromones of the young ladies gathered to see Dulli (pronounced Dooley - I wasn't sure before, but am now. About 250 people, over half of which were women, which isn't any big surprise, I suppose, considering his rep as the indie rock mack daddy. Well deserved, too, after watching him in action. Here’s the set list, which I had posted last night, revised slightly after thinking about it. I'm ReadyEsta NocheBonnie BraeToo Tough to DieLive with Me - Mark Lanegan ... MORE
Went and saw the Twilight SIngers last night at Great American and they absolutely blew it out. As many of you know, the Twilight Singers are lead by Greg Dulli, the former frontman for the Afghan Whigs. These guys play an in-your-face sexy rock meets soul that is turned up to 10 for the entire 90 minutes. Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees is also performing with them and exuded a cool Tom Waitsesque vibe with his heart on his sleeve throughout. If they are in your... MORE
Roland has once again proven a good musical source as he has provided me with an amazing track by the Twilight Singers, a group that was formed by the Afghan Whigs' lead singer. "Live With Me" adds to the general gloom of my record collection, with it's slow guitars and deep, dark voice. The bass accents the notes well, but the drums all of a sudden pick up the beat and you have a mixed result: something that feels languid, but you could dance with the pulse anyway. I love...
