I've always liked the studio version of The Thermals' "A Pillar of Salt," check out this live version. What do you think?
I know it says this is off The Body, The Blood, The Machine but it isn't, this is off a live album: Live [at the Echoplex December 7th, 2007]
Talking to some of my friends and family about my impending move to California is sometimes like banging my head up against a wall. They just can't imagine that are other ways to live your life that don't entail minivans and bingo nights. It is is insanely frustrating to talk in circles about why I am doing this...the ones who get it, totally get it...but those who don't think I am driving off into a black hole. They stress me out to no end...but i got off the phone...an... MORE
I have lost track, but exactly how many hate speech spewing, ultra conservative, bible thumping, homophobic republicans turned out to be gay this year? 20 or so by my count...and the year isn't over...
Chucky, I caught your comment about the Madder Rose song I posted a week or so ago making you sad. And I don't think that was the first time that has happened, so I wanted to post something that might make it up to you and show that, while I do love them sad songs, I don't listen entirely to sad bastard music.
Bring Me Up is my blog site. Tons of stuff to keep up with, read about and listen to. It is updated multiple times each day because I'm slightly obsessed. I absolutely love music and writing. I also write for VENUS, Spacelab and Indie Music Xposed. So be sure to check out their sites as well.
My friends and I just started a web video 'channel' where we've been showing some of our original productions. One of the biggest hits so far is a weekly video we've been making called "Breakfast at Sulimay's". Sulimay's is a diner in the arty, but still down-and-out Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. We go to Sulimay's all the time cuz it's cheap and local and they make great pancakes. But there are also these guys, old-timers, that sit around like they're on Che... MORE

As i checked my calendar I realized that the Hold Steady/Thermals double bill that I am going to is on March 17th...St Patrick's Day...It will be be bad. But bad in the best sorta way,
Now allow me to rock you with the song that i think was the best opening track on any album in 2006...did you hear that Grammy's? Now there is a category for ya!!
If I was 20 years younger I would be at whatever club The Thermals were playing, standing in the front row making sure that everyone knew that I knew all the words to the album because I was a fan before anybody else ever heard of them.
Fortunately I don't have to relive my 20's and I can just YouTube the video for Pillar of Salt. And, for an old guy, that's enough.
The Thermals make me really really happy.
