Blog post image preview Rock music has been deluged with precautionary tales of excess, through every genre, through every decade, there's been artists only too willing to confess via record their regression into addictive substances of one form or another. For fans of London four piece The Stranglers, the signs of chemical addiction were vividly obvious from their promo video for the classic single "5 Minutes" from 1978. The band members (particularly Drummer Jet Black) looked vacant, tragically... MORE

Straighten Out!

Blog post image preview I have no real reason for posting this today. I'd love to share some poignant anecdote or deep, cerebral meaning, but I'm only putting it up because it rocks so fucking furiously that it never fails to make my goddamn day. J.J. Burnell's inimitable bass playing well to the fore. GODDAMMIT I LOVED THE STRANGLERS SO MUCH.

Blog post image preview After posting about The Dead Kennedys I got to thinking. There's a lot of music I like that doesn't fit in nice neat genres. They skirt the outsides of genres, subverting them and making the genre richer for their influence.
What happens when you take a blues singer, a classical concert guitarist, a jazz drummer and a military band player? It sounds like the biggest mistake but it turned out to be a very powerful combination indeed. Much like the Rolling Stones the combinat... MORE

The Stranglers - Something Better Change

And change it did. Another 1977 release, this time from the new wave/punk band The Stranglers. Not as popular as some of their peers, they are still cited as an influential band by many music makers. Still touring as well.

I wasn’t really into them, but I did like this album and this track? It was interesting to read Jammy Jeff’s stuff about them.

Blog post image preview I know a little of music and a lot of nothing. As evidenced by this early post. I'm constantly finding music and constantly researching. All of that research never helps me to find what someone else recommends. This is especially true when it comes to my wife. I constantly hear a song somewhere and I'm like, "What the hell is this?" and she's all "Oh that's (insert band name here)!" I was a pretty big music nazi when I met her. She showed me the wonders of several a... MORE

Sometimes Punk music brings out the warrior in me. You can tell where I am going by following the trail of sonic carcasses I leave in my wake.
