LE ROYALE ( i stole this from NY Mag's website....shhhhhhhhhhhhh)
at a place called Le Royale owned by my buddy Terry Casey (a true music afficionado)... So of course 300 Smith fans were curious what how he would play..... It was funny bc Mr Rourke ain't an I-Pod DJ. He takes the craft seriously. Since Le Royale is a kind of cubbyhole of a club- and the upper club room was as dark and dim as Lehman Brothers employee's spirits (something tells me more New Yorkers will ... MORE
I have been steadily digitizing my albums. Tonight this one was on deck. This is a vinyl rip from a record that has been played more times than I can remember. The single I hope you are listening to now came out in 1984, August to be exact. These songs didn't make it to their self titled studio debut. Why, I don't know. But they were nice enough to add the songs on the second album 'Hatful of Hollow'. The tracks that are on this single will stand the test of time. E... MORE

First we were informed by Morrissey's management that neither he nor Johnny Marr officially sanctioned nor approved of the up and coming hits package coming out on Rhino. Now we are being told not only do the two endorse the release but acccording to the NME, Morrissey, himself, came up with the title and Marr is supervising the mastering of the tracks. Am I the only one who would rather not go back to the old house with yet another Smiths compilation? Where's the lon... MORE
Do you know that song "Rubber Ring" by The Smiths? It's essentially Morrissey's song to people who outgrow his music. It's brilliant, really. "And when you're dancing and laughing
And finally living
Hear my voice in your head
And think of me kindly" I used to be really into the Smiths about 5 years ago, and while I would never say I "grew" out of them, they didn't seem to be as urgent. Well, I've recently started listening to them a lot. As it turns out, it is humanl... MORE

It has long been suspected that every DJ is a frustrated musician, but rock stars seem to be turning into DJs. Bob Dylans 'Theme Time Radio Hour' highlighted this a couple of years ago but the are plenty more doing the same;
Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) is on Los Angeles KDLE-FM.
Guy Garvey (Elbow) is on bbc6music.
Tom Petty is on XM's Weekly 'Buried Tresure'
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) is on bbc6music.
Feel free to name some more......

It's one thing to flog a dead horse. It's a whole other matter to scoop up that dead horse's remains, jerky them, then cobble them together repeatedly for a voracious dried meat-eating, music-buying public. Obviously, if the dead horse is beloved British indie-pop band The Smiths, it appears anything is fair play in the repetitious compilation game (and no, don't worry Smiths fans, we would never insinuate that any of you would ever be caught eating horse meat...).

Why are The Smiths so bitter these days? Warner Bros. is releasing yet another compilation Hang The DJ: The Very Best of The Smiths without consent by the band. This comes off the news that Warners is releasing a Live at the Hollywood Bowl DVD against the wishes and approval of Morrissey. You could say that Moz is not very pleased with Warner Bros. Moz is urging his fans to resist purchasing either Smiths double CD or Moz DVD. In case you were wondering the track listi... MORE

Why won't the sycophantic slags finally release properly remastered versions of the original albums instead of just giving us more, lame compilations: The Smiths Anthologized On Double-Disc Set. Sure, the Smiths were a classic "singles band." But their albums hold...

now she's gone. this disappoints me so much. the real world has reached into our little utopia. i don't know why, and at this point, i don't care to know why. some things just can't be undone, i guess. so, at least for today, i'll be using this lovely avatar from an artist introduced to me by her, and i will not be using caps. some would call this a futile, shallow gesture. i prefer to think of it as a heartfelt homage. oh mother, i can feel the soil falling over m...
