The Black Keys released their new album Attack & Release earlier this week. To celebrate here's the Ohio-based duo's new video for "Strange Times," which takes you back to those good ol' fifth grade laser tag parties.
The Black Keys kick off their tour in support of Attack & Release tomorrow (April 4th) in Portland, Oregon. Most dates are sold out, but fans can also catch them on tour again at the end of May when they open up for the Raconteurs.
From the band's MySpace page/bulletin: --------------------------------------------------- The Black Keys recently played their biggest headlining show to date in Brooklyn, NY at McCarren Pool with over 4,800 fans in attendance.
Show review from the New York Times:
"Mr. Auerbach's crawling guitar lines...and Mr. Carney's thrusting drum racket...appealingly ragged...walls of psychedelia...the band's greatest strength, it's directness" – Jon Caramanica

The Black Keys are no stranger to the covers. They’ve covered legendary bluesman, Junior Kimbrough on their debut album The Big Come Up with the song "Do The Rump" and on their follow up album, Thickfreakness with "Everywhere I Go." Junior Kimbrough’s Mississippi blues sound is an obvious influence on The Black Keys. Auerbach’s howling vocals [...]

This was the album I was anticipating the most for this year. I thoroughly enjoyed their work previous to this, so I had high expectations for the album. The album starts off with a slow ballad, "All You Ever Wanted," which is folky, and at the end gets into unfamiliar territory for the band (Studio additions and deep bass.) This track sets the tone for the whole album, and leads into the next track, "I Got Mine." The second track is a hard hitting blues riff, similar to... MORE

- I mentioned Junior Kimbrough’s influence on The Black Keys the other day. A less obvious influence on the band was the music of the Beatles. I guess "She Said, She Said" is really a blues song after all, so it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination. The song can be found on the band’s [...]

Okay, one of my favorite blues bands of this modern age, The Black Keys have an awesome first album, The Big Come Up, which harks most of its prowess to the likes of Junior Kimbrough. The track that surprises me though is a Beatles cover, "She Said, She Said," and everyone should give it a spin. That being said, you should check out this band's album, and if you get a chance to see them live, please don't pass it up because I saw them at Bonnaroo last year and they were on... MORE
