I just wanted to chime in with a band and an album that I haven't seen on anybody's year-end best yet. The Apples in Stereo put out a really great record this year. Musically ambitious but still packed with accessible, hummable power pop, I think it belongs among the best albums of the year. It's not perfect, but the good songs on it are excellent, the okay songs are good, and the bad songs are listenable--think The New Pornographers without the melancholy streak. Al... MORE

Yes its a holiday mood, in spite of all the stuff that hits the fan

Way, way late to the party on this one, but I recently downloaded The Apples in Stereo's Velocity of Sound and absolutely love it. Their later stuff is more polished (pun intended, if you caught it - Apples, see), but this big thick guitar stuff just makes me smile. I like so many songs on this album, but Please has got that maxy catchy factor. And please enjoy my ultra literal photographic interpretation of "Apples in Stereo."

i know i'm pretty late jumping on the bandwagon, but is anyone else aware of HOW MUCH ASS the apples in stereo kick? i mean, i've "liked" them for years, but lately i've been getting sort of ...addicted. i don't know why. it just happened. one day, i was fine, listening to mixes and being quite happy, and the next, i wanted to listen to the apples and stereo and nothing else. except sometimes it makes me want to listen to the olivia tremor control, and also the beatle... my new favorite apples in stereo song "sun is out" is going in my "soundtrack to life" playlist. btw, my movie is gonna be directed by wes anderson... he doesnt know it yet.

For me the singer has a strong confidence that foams about his being. I love the vintage look of the video. Lovin' this band!
