This quiet George Harrison song follows the raucous freak-out of Helter Skelter on the White Album, which probably caused you to ignore it or dismiss it in 1968 and for many years afterwards - more mature reflection leads you to the understanding that it is one of the most beautiful songs in the Beatles canon - this is a really haunting cover, that nicely optimises the song - I only heard it recently when it featured as one of the tracks on Uncut magazine's give-away ... This unbelievable, really hot night that extended well into the next day for me as I went straight from the Windham Hotel in Vermont to Logan Airport (brief stop at the B and B to collect myself and my belongings and to bathe), left this song running through my head again and again. Listening to Tanya Donelly's new record "This Hungry Life" right now -- I was a big fan of Belly back, uh, 14 years ago (is it really that long??). I haven't paid a lot of attention to her solo career, but holy crap this record is good. "New England" literally finds the same spot in the universe that Belly and Dolly Parton both occupy. There's a lot of country warmth here, and her unmistakeable voice. I probably just lost any trace of masculinity I previously harbored, but... MORE

It takes some courage to record your new album in front of a live audience (she's the "Roc" of the ex-90's alternative scene!) and Tanya pulls it off with aplomb.
