In many ways the First Lady of modern country music, Tammy Wynette had an incredible run of chart-topping hits for Epic Records between 1966 and 1969, most of which, like 1967's "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad" and "I Don't Wanna Play House," 1968's "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" and "Stand by Your Man," and 1969's "The Ways to Love a Man" are collected in this 18-song set. There are a few omissions ("My Elusive Dreams," "Take Me to Your World," "Singing My Song"), but the selections here form the essential heart of Wynette's legacy, provided, of course, you add in her immortal duets with George Jones.
