AMG Review of Tempo/Avanço
John Bush
All Music GuideA nice two-fer from Philips, Tempo/Avanço makes for a good purchase by ossa nova fans wondering whether any breezy Brazilian group made solid LPs during the early '60s. Though there's little variety to spice the sound, Tamba Trio's bright harmonies and nimble accompaniment make for solid music. Tempo, their second LP, includes great jaunts through Brazilian standards (now, if not then) like "Berimbau" and "O Amor em Paz." Avanço includes the trio's biggest hit, "Mas Que Nada," as well as versions of "Garota de Ipanema," "So Danço Samba," and "Vento do Mar."
