My television was muted the other day, and there were two giraffes fighting. To do so, they were swinging their necks about all fancy-crazy and bashing each other. One of the giraffes eventually was vanquished and fell down, and then my little sister came and turned on Hannah Montana and I do not know if giraffes can get back up after falling down and hell if this is not disturbing me as knowledge I feel like I need. Also cause I feel like I need to talk about music Be... MORE

First of all, great great album that I have recently gotten into. It is completely worth your time, I promise. Swan Lake is a cryptic, intricate indie band made up of Carey Mercer of Frog Eyes, Daniel Bejar of Destroyer and The New Pornographers, and Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, and Frog Eyes. Basically, Gods. Their debut and currently only CD "Beast Moans" is a complicated and beautifully structed work of art. I'm not even kidding. It's art. But in thi... MORE

Swan Lake

Artist:
Album:
Track:
What happens when you throw three of indie rock's most eccentric songwriters together in a remote cabin on Vancouver Island -- with only guitars and mics for amusement and the nearest bar over a dangerous mountain pass? Swan Lake, that's what." Swan Lake is Daniel Bejar from Destroyer, Carey Mercer from Frog Eyes and Spencer Krug from Wolf Eyes and Sunset Rubdown, a sort of Canadian indie all-star team with one album, Beast Moans out on Jagjaguwar. I interviewed Carey ... MORE

Blog post image preview Mr. Talent. Possible a.k.a. - Mr. "Finger-in-Every-Pie". Listening to the new Swan Lake album, and being reminded of my love for Sunset Rubdown and Wolf Parade via rhymeswithrawk's 'Oh Canadia' post... I remembered my fondness for live clips of the boy-wonder. Share? Alright then... Sunset Rubdown - Swimming [Live In Chicago] Sunset Rubdown - Stadiums & Shrines II [Live In Chicago] Wolf Parade - I'll Believe In Anything [Live at CMJ] Anyone AC-... MORE

I'm very. very. very. Disappointed.

Artist:
Album: Beast Moans [11/21]
Track: Just Won't Burn
Blog post image preview This above is why I'm so sad. It was also the reason that I've been so happy. Happy until today, that is. Above is the cover of the Swan Lake album, Beast Moans. For those of you who don't know about Swan Lake, well, it's an indie-supergroup of sorts made up of these gentlemen. These gentlemen are as follows, from left: Dan Bejar (of Destroyer), Carey Mercer (of Frog Eyes), and Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Frog Eyes). So you notice a pattern? Yes... MORE

Canadian Indie Conglomerate Music Making Machine

In the category of musician collectives and geographically centered side projects, our brethren to the north seem to have the US beat. With the successes of Broken Social Scene and the New Pornographers already in the country's back pocket, soon arrived the additional folklore that surrounds city centres such as Montreal. A city where casual musician friends show up at a venue to play an impromtu show and end up becoming one the most hyped indie bands in quite awhile (Wolf... MORE

Blog post image preview How Bejar could follow up his "Rubies" album with this gem is beyond me, the man seems to have endless creative juice. Bejar is one of the indie pop/rock artists not currently boring me to death or shilling for Target. I can't wait for the vinyl to hit the street (here's hoping they press it on vinyl!)
