I was late to the "Neon Neon" party..just caught up with them on the "Mercury Prize" awards programme...a tremendous performance, including the ridiculous audacity of Ha-Mar Superstar...with my usual "wine-tasting" take on the sounds..i'm getting "Kraftwerk" mmmm "Human League"....er "Be-Bop Deluxe!" even , i always catch a hint of Ray Davies in Gruff's voice... and i would definitely stand by that Bill Nelson reference...Apparently the "Stainless Style" songs are loose... “Sorry, Dublin, we don’t know what the fuck we’re doing.” A twenty second delay between songs and it’s panic stations for Huw “Bunf” Bunford, the legendary weirdy-beardy lead guitarist of Super Furry Animals. Well, you don’t survive fourteen years in rock without having some kind of standards. (Insert your own Bryan Adams joke here.) Judging by the crowd’s uncontrolled glee at pocket rocket openers _Baby Ate My Eightball_ and _Do or Die_, if this is the sound of clueles... MORE
_"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.I love thee to the depth and breadth and heightMy soul can reach, when feeling out of sightFor the ends of Being and ideal Grace"_ If I could ask my body rather than my brain to nominate the world’s greatest band, the answer I’d receive is Super Furry Animals. How would I receive such a communication, I hear you cry pedantically. Why, sweat ducts on the back of my hand would squeeze out enough perspiration to form the letters... MORE

I didn't think I could listen to an album for the first time and have it move me to tears anymore.
Then I bought this album.
So, having just seen Indiepixies post about Glasto, I was inspired to add my two pence worth (twopennerth for Northern English types and two cents for our American friends...) So, what am I saying? Basically, my point is this - I was at Glastonbury last year, and it was indeed genius and I had a great time, but it was also probably one of the most exhausting weekends of my life! Something you hardly ever consider when seeing pictures of people in the mud is how i... MORE
Gruff Rhys started out with his fab introduction "We're the Super Furry Animals!"...and introduced several songs with "this is a story about..." and then lovingly after each song the genuine, "Thank you very much!" The Super Furries offered up some delicious offerings from their latest CD Hey Venus! Stand outs for me were The Gift that Keeps Giving and Run Away. They also did a great job playing some of the older favorites...Calimero (song about a chicken), Do or Die, J... MORE
Closing out 2007, I find myself pumped up about the band Super Furry Animals....I really dig their sound on the two studio albums I have checked out so far. Curious to see how they stack up live on stage. Top ten albums discovered in 2007: aretha franklin - rare & unreleased recordings from the golden reign of the queen of soulbelle & sebastian - the life pursuitthe decemberists - the crane wifeneko case - fox confessor brings the floodthe new pornographers - twin cine... So...i am finally getting around to listening to the latest from Super Furry Animals which came out last year...and now
I am kicking myself for waiting so long.
The track I am including is so great. It has that wonderful retro sound(think Golden age Phil Spector) without sounding contrived or played out...not an easy thing to pull off.
Enjoy "Run Away"
Ok, I've been a long-time admirer of the Super furries since seeing them roll through a field in a ww2 tank approx 10 years back. A few years and several giant inflatable animals later, they still continue to produce great tunes and live shows worth spending your hard-earned on Given the welcome heat-wave here, this tune is well worth a spin croeso y cymru!
