Chicago is amazing (as are the other versions on Avalanche). And there are some other really good songs and it holds together extremely well as a concept album. But my favorite song and the reason I bought the album initially was for this song. It evokes such a strong mood - interesting and dark, kind of scary and holy at once. When I write creatively it's one of the songs I used to help me get into that place.
So I just moved to Chico, California with the thought that it's about time to start school again and get on with my education. It's been surprisingly quiet here, which I'm more than thankful for. I'm glad Chico has not yet lived up to it's reputation of being a huge party town (not that I don't like to party). i collect live sufjan, and while i often have to search hard to find great recordings, this one came right to my tivo. and to yours, if you're an austin city limits enthusiast.
the chimes at the beginning cause tiny hairline fractures that split deep & wide as the song rumbles forth.
life can be....messy
things get complicated, things just get messy.
and it appears even fate is spiteful
so here i sit, contemplating the great mystery of life and the messiness within.
i'll be the first to admit i've made a lot of mistakes in this messy adventure that is life, but i won't trade any of them, and i wouldn't change anything.

I had this whole write up on Sufjan Stevens then my internet decided to freeze. Now you guys dont get anything other then the fact that he is amazing and it is great music to drive to.

Well, the Self Righteous Records tour ended, for me anyway. Called back home for a family emergency. I sat in the Airport looking out at the Calgary city skyline like a small cardboard cutout. It was a strange time coming down from being with such great people (them being Amy Honey, The Lonesome Valley Singers & Meatdraw).
