Every year on the Fourth of July we remember our founding fathers and the precious inheritance of freedom that they secured for us. Every year it seems we get further and further away from that birthright, but we still have much to celebrate. This country was founded on principles of freedom from overbearing rulers, onerous taxation, and the right to live our lives as we see fit. Our indepe...
As anyone with half an ear knows, Steve Vai can play a guitar like nobody else. His playing takes you on a trip through the cosmos. It's a sound so inspired and so pure that you'll swear that you can sense God on the other side of it.No, I'm not using hyperbole, and I'm absolutely serious. If you don't believe me, hit the "play" button with this article and just close your eyes.If you don't ...
He is the best I've ever heard. He makes a guitar sound like it is actually "feeling" emotion. In his hands, a guitar is a living creature. If you asked the very best young guitarists who was the major influence on their playing....80 or 90% would name him. Details another time, but if you haven't before....meet Steve Vai. He is playing his song, "For the Love of God"
Something of an obvious choice as best guitar album of the 90's, at least among those in the know, it's amazing how few people are familiar with the importance of this album in shaping the rock fusion scene as a whole and the future career of many a solo instrumentalist over the ensuing decades since it's release, not least that of Steve himself.PAW launched Vai's solo career after years of him...
I think this is very cool. The Musicians Institute just awarded Steve Vai an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the music world. Later this month, Steve will release a new DVD called Where the Wild Things Are. I've had the DVD on my radar for awhile now, and I plan on picking it up when it comes out. Here's the official release: HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 21, 2009) - Musicians Institute ...
First time I saw Steve was when he was touring with Whitesnake in the early 1990's. I don't remember a lot about this gig but one thing I'll never forget is Steve playing his pink, heart-shaped, tripleneck Ibanez custom guitar like a madman. I know it's lame just to post a YouTube video link but I just can't find any words to describe a musician of his magnitude... This is Steve playing "Tender...
Steve vai was in Brasov / Romania at a festival called "Cerbul De Aur" (Golden Deer). Was a not heavy metal fest, just some stupid pop singers. Steve Vai received an award for his entire career and played 3 songs without the band. So it is almost live :)Thanks to AdrianPlace:Brasov / Romaniavenue:Central SquareBroadcast by Romanian TelevisionLineage:TVR1 (Romanian Television) - Winfast Expert -...
"I love the sound of a well played guitar in the morning!" This track by Steve Vai is one of his baddest that I've heard so far, and from what I've seen of his earlier albums I don't think that it will be too long before he strips the crown from his master and mentor Joe Satriani. If you think the song is top notch, you should check out the video on youtube.

Here’s a cute and insightful clip of Steve Vai talking about his audition for Zappa’s band.As always, go to Berkleee then click pause on the music player located in the side bar before playing the YouTube.Would you rather be “virtuoso” or “visceral”?By the way, I’ve been watching the “Zappa Plays Zappa” DVD and it’s really [...]

Okay. So here’s a great example of the ways in which the mind works.Last week Vince and I were talking about Devin Townsend, as we do from time to time. And later that night, I got a song from Vai’s Sex & Religion album stuck in my head. I used to listen to that album [...]
